Hi everybody!

I need some sharp (possiby rare), and sound variation in open sicilian. I play with black pieces.

Any sugestions?

What's yours opinion ob accelerated dragon?

Smile Read my blog entry dated 09/21/2009 and entitled: "The Best Defense for White's King Pawn Opening". Wink That should be of help to you. Surprised Stay away from the "Dragon" unless you know what you're doing, or your opponent(s) are weaker players than you. This sword is double edged and cuts both ways!  The Fianchetto of Black's King Bishop is a good tactic, if you know how to handle it properly.  Maybe this variation and its lines are okay for you!  -  ChessPaladin2009 Cool

you can go for the hyper accelerated dragon.. if peoples know what to do you will most of the time get the normal dragon, otherwise you can can some strong advantage

I would recommend to stay away from hyper accelerated dragon or accelerated dragon as there are many different ways the game can go, sure you may get a win here or there from a weaker opponent but when fighting a strong opponent the maroczy bind is brutal (although there are ways of dealing with it). If you stick with the dragon and study it a bit you should be fine.

Variations that are rare are rarely sound thats why they are rare.  (Say it three times fast.)   Its also true.  A sharp, sound line in any black defense is going to be seen a lot.  Thus we have the various main line Sicilians.  Pick one, learn it and deviations up to your starting point. Any of them will do if you have the time and ambition.

The O'Kelly variation is just what you ask for. That's  1 e4 c5  2 Nf3 a6 ....... according to my data base its just as good as the other , more popular, lines in the open sicilians.

The Accelerated Dragon is fine, but it's not particularly sharp.

Sharp, rare, and shound. In the Open Sicilian. I don't believe they exist.

Sharp and sound, there are of course plenty: Dragon, Najdorf, Scheveningen, Taimanov, Sveshnikov, Classical...

El-Jefe

   e4..c5      Nf3...e6      d4..cxd4    Nxd4...Nf6     Nc3....Bb4

this is both rare and extremely sharp  however it is 100% sound in all lines but 1

       after ..............Bb4        6.e5...Nd5   7.Bd2...Nxc3    8.bxc3...Be7

9.Qg4...0-0   10.Bh6....g6    and although whites pawn structure is bad and black is master of the dark squares theory says after Bxf8 white is better

Until now i play Scheveningen. But next month i have a game with my friend from club and he is well prepared to this variation. That is the main reason for what i'm looking something new.

Maybe is better to spend some extra time with Scheveningen, maybe i discover something "new" in this awesome variation. Like i "discovered" in blitz game against najdorf variation after 6.Bg5 e5?! and 7...Be6, then i have after white long castle tremendous attack (white has position of yugoslaw attack). In one moment i have his queen in trap.

For all this Scheveningen obsession i blame mr. Kasparov. Thank you a lot Garry!!! Laughing

After all is important that player feel comfortably in positions and know all possibly scenarios. Ther is not a poit to be for all cost sharp position for winning a game.

What book you recommended for scheveningen?

I have book from Kasparov and Nikitin: The sicilian scheveningen.
