pirc is a little less ambitious, does put pressure on e4 pawn. Sicilian Najdorf is better then the dragon, which is better then the pirc. play a6 on your 6th move not g6
sicilian dragon vs pirc defense

Be that all as it may, the question was about two specific replies: Dragon vs. Pirc. This happens every time someone asks about an opening. And it really is irritating.
Both can even have the same pawn structure, but with a later c5 by Black.
I think the Sicilian is better in general, though the range of White responses is far wider and will require more study to prepare. The Pirc is more or less what you get with the Pirc.

They are somewhat similar but, because the Black takes more time to contest the center in the Pirc, this gives the White some extra possibilities. The White's most dangerous try against the Pirc is the Austrian attack 1. e4 d6 2.d4 Nf6 3. Nc3 g6 4. f4 Bg7 5. Nf3, aiming to play e5 soon and chase away the Black's Knight from f6 where it defends the King-side. A similar plan doesn't work as well against the Dragon where there has already been an exchange on d4 and the White center is not as solid. On the other hand, since the Black has not immediately committed to playing c5 in the Pirc they can opt for playing c6 instead in some lines.

thx sir for the reply. i have tried caro-kann, french but my success rate with sicilian dragon is the best so i am planning to stick to it. my worries are:
1. despite sicilian's huge thery should i continue with it?
2. what should i do if somebody after e4- c6 gors ahead with smith-mora or alapin?

I wasn't suggesting to play the Caro Kann, I meant that there are Pirc lines where the Black prefers to play c6 instead of c5. They may sometimes proceed with d5 as in the CK, but more often the idea of that is to play b5 and start a pawn-storm on the Queen-side.
1. That answer depends on you. If you are prepared to study a considerable amount of theory, you can go with the Sicilian. The Pirc has plenty of theory too but it may not be as critical to know it all on the amateur level. (However against the Austrian attack you will need to know the theory.)
2. If you choose the Dragon, you should of course be prepared for the anti-Sicilians.
hi. i was just going through defenses for black against e4 openings by white and found that in both sicilian dragon and pirc defenses black fianchetoes his bishop on g7, hence in both the cases style of play for black is almost same, then why is sicilian dragon is consindered very sharp and has very high success rate as copmpared to pirc. plz put your views because on this analysis i will chooses either of these defense against e4. thx
