you can play kings' indian or benoni or grunfeld three are okay. chose one that matches ur mood and style.
sicilian is the best for e4, ? for d4
There's not a ''best reply'' as chess isn't solved yet. You should try an opening wich suits you style and that you like.
At our level we can play everythink we want but the best player'll everytime win.

thx. i have heard this type of comment many a times that there is no best reply and we should just play chess but i think openings have been derived from a lot of study of the game by our earlier players and as such opening tells us how should we play, any other move (s) will create a weakness. as for as the best opening i meant the one which has maximum chances of black wining.
If you're looking for what is considered best at the moment, you may want to look at what top GM players use against 1.d4.
I believe the nimzo-indian is the "sicilian" of the 1 d4 universe...... sicilian scores about 49% and nimzo 48% . Be warned though that many 1 d4 players choose to avoid the nimzo with 3 Nf3 or 3 g3 .
What about the semi-slav position after 1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6 3.Nf3 Nf6 4.Nc3 e6 (I know there are deviations for white, but I'm curious about this specific position)
I find the Queen's Indian to be the best reply against 1. d4, and there's always the Nimzo if your opponent goes for Nc3
I would recommend KID(King's Indian Defence)....its probably the best counter against d4 especially if you're up against a higher rated player...I should know...i play KID and win almost every game against d4...just watch your king's side
And im a d4 player too
Dutch Lenningrad is a very sharp system. Like the Sicilian it is unbalanced from the beginning leading to a real fight.
