The problem with your logic is that you CAN NOT plan on one system as a catch-all to all Sicilians unless you play an Anti-Sicilian, which based on you talking about f3 and g4, known as the English Attack in most cases, you sound like you are referring to the Open Sicilian (1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 intending 3.d4).
The "English Attack" is only playable against certain Sicilians, including the Najdorf, Taimanov, or Scheveningen, though in the last case, it's not very effective at all.
Against the Dragon, you have what is known as the "Yugoslav" attack, which involves an early f3, and often an eventual g4, but playing g4 too early is sometimes dubious in that line because of a common Bishop Sacrifice, ...Bxg4, getting 2 pawns and an attack on the open king for the Bishop.
What you need to do if you intend to play the Open Sicilian is think of each Sicilian as its own opening. Therefore, you'd need answers to each of the following:
1 - Sicilian Najdorf
2 - Sicilian Dragon
3 - Sicilian Classical
4 - Sicilian Scheveningen*
5 - Sicilian Kupreichik
6 - Sicilian Accelerated Dragon
7 - Sicilian Sveshnikov
8 - Sicilian Kalashnikov
9 - Sicilian Lowenthal
10 - Sicilian Kan
11 - Sicilian Taimanov*
12 - Sicilian Four Knights
13 - Sicilian Pin Variation
14 - Sicilian Nimzovich Variation
15 - Sicilian O'Kelly Variation
#'s 1-5 are 2...d6 Sicilians, 6-9 are 2...Nc6 Sicilians, 10-13 are 2...e6 Sicilians, and 14-15 are offbeat lines (2...Nf6, 2...a6, respectively).
Note that an asterisk shows for #'s 4 and 11. That's because they can come from different move orders. The Taimanov can also come from 2...Nc6. The Scheveningen can also come from 2...Nc6 or 2...e6.
Now the English Attack, which you appear to be referring to, is pretty strong against the Najdorf. Now you need to find your solution to each of the other 14 variations! Good luck!
hello guys, I have some troubles on sicillian defense as white. I really love the opening because it seems to be more complicated and harder to force you to think more, fitting for chess, but after I learnt the basic ideas, I cant choose between what to play because there are so many different situations on sicillian defense. thinkin between f3-f4-g4, I cant choose which to play depending on the situation. for example, if im going to move f4, my queen has to be on d1 and not d2? or the black quuen must be on c7? I mustnt play f3 or g4 when black queen is on c7, or something?
I'd really be glad if somebody could explain the "ideas" behind the situations which will lead me to understand which to play when.
