Hard to say without seeing the game. There are plenty of ways for white to play safe after nxc4. e4 instead is mega theory which is in white's favour. Winning this early a bit optimistic.
Slav position question
The mainline involves rushing Black is the center with 7. f3 (instead of Nxc4) when 7...Bb4 8. e4 Bxe4 9. fxe4 Nxe4 10. Bd2 Qxd4 11. Nxe4 Qxe4+ 12. Qe2 Bxd2+ 13. Kxd2 Qd5+ is a mainline established back in the 90ties.

These games come to mind.
3 pawns for a piece is exactly why I didn't play this line, I looked at it OTB and thought it was just good for black. Then I looked it up on stockfish and it said it was dead equal. I thought about playing Kf2 and then e4 but like I said my opponent played Nd5 instead of 0-0 next move after which I played Bd2 and after Nxc3 bxc3 Bxc3 I missed the crucial Ra2!
After 8Nxc4 Nd5 9bd2 you mean black is playing 9...Qh4ch 10g3 Qxd4 then 11e4 Nxc3 etc, because the immediate Nxc3 bxc3 Bxc3 doesn't make sense.
It's perfectly possible to postpone 8. e4 and play 8. Bg5 or 8. Nxc4 first, there is quite a bit of theory about it. Of course it's hardly any stronger objectively but the nature of the position is much different so it may suit White's needs.
I was thinking about playing Kf2 before e4 actually if there were going to be sacrifices that led to me losing 3 pawns for a piece.
And I played f3 because it seemed like the best move. I wanted to play e4 without losing a bunch of pawns..

It's actually an idea in this line to play Kf2. Black is supposed to go for the piece sac to get any chance at advantage. I only played this position once OTB (as White) against a NM and he didn't know how to play it.
But Kf2 is usually preceded by Nxc4, I think c5 is a good move against an immediate Kf2. Honestly I never played against the pure Slav before and I really never expected it to be this challenging to try for an edge. Interesting positions come out of this but the idea of being down 3 pawns for a piece is just not appealing..
What happened in this game? I'm not sure what I did wrong, I played sensible moves it seemed like, and when I looked in the database white had a good score with my position but I just had a really hard time playing it OTB and stockfish thought black was slightly better already.
It seems like there are problems playing e4 since I'd have to give up a piece for 3 pawns which looks very hard to win. Are there any recent games with this type of setup in the Slav? he ended up playing Nd5 and winning 2 pawns with some compensation for white but I ended up losing anyways since I couldn't fully compensate. This is the first time I tried playing the Krause Attack and I didn't expect e6 instead of Nbd7 and the onslaught that followed.
