Stafford Gambit: How dubious it is compared other crazy openings?

Schrantz alwsys plays against Lichess' dumbed down version of Stockfish level 8 or something, while using his low specs PC, pluss he's using lines he has prepared specifically against this dumbed down version of Stockfish, which in itself is unfair. No one in the world can even dream about beating Stockfish 12 under fair conditions, and certainly not some 1900 fide player that goes by the name vampire chicken. I mean come on, its laughable to even suggest something like that.

My point was just it's surprisingly possible to beat an engine with that line, also a human drew a GM with it (even though the engine says White's winning... by a *lot*.. maybe it doesn't say that if you make it more powerful... a more powerful engine can see further, but not *much* further.) There was a book back in the day "How to Fool Fritz" where it was suggested to go for romantic gambit lines where the Engine thought it was winning by 2 or so... more than 2 the author didn't think the Engine could be so wrong, so it was bound to backfire... and since then I've seen many such positions... Seeing Schrantz' engine read +10 and then end up losing was then, something new to me. Maybe it wouldn't work if he wasn't on Lichess. Maybe the game against the GM would have gone differently had it not been a simul (of course it would have), that wasn't my point. My point was a. chess is hard, and b. the line seems to be more playable than I thought (and suggested) when I first responded to this post.

I'm fairly sure I saw Schwartz using a real time control when he played against Stockfish (he has quite a few videos of this so we may be thinking of different ones) but I hear you.

Oh, I'm sure there are more. But it's kinda "common" knowledge he runs Stockfish on a laptop from the 18th century lol. Engines are always very hardware dependent I guess.

And also I agree it is surprising how quickly a gambit can go from losing to winning, especially during an attack happy.png. I am a big fan of gambits, and have plenty of success with the Latvian gambit at 2200 Rapid on Lichess. IM Miodrag Perunovic has some nice youtube vids beating high rated players with it online. Of course the problem is the longer the time control you play, the more likely it is your gambit will be refuted.
