Systems for learning openings?

Been trying to learn the Sicilian Defense system, but been going at it hap-hazzardly.  How do other people out there go about learning a new system?  Crib sheets?  Decision trees?

As an aside, anyone got a cool opening for white?  Getting a little tired of the QGx.

This one is really cool for white: 1. e4 2. Ke2

 1. e3 2. Ke2

A more passive variation that temporarily concedes the center but doesn't provide black a target.

Lots of interesting answers -.-

@aquiredtaste: The important question you should ask yourself is what you want to get out of the opening. You probably already know that the Sicilian Defense is so vast that it's impossible to master every variation of it. I suggest you take a look at the variations and pick a few lines that you find interesting. Then, play them every time you get. I'm guessing you want to play it as Black, so you might want to do the whole "decision tree" thingy. If White goes into the Open Sicilian, you might aim for an Accelerated Dragon for example. If he plays a Closed Sicilian, Alapin, Smith-Morra, or other Anti-Sicilian, you would have to have a different line prepared. Naturally, you should spend more time on the Open Sicilian Variation, since you're more likely to play Open Sicilians.

As White, 1.e4 is a solid choice (in general, more open, tactical games compared to 1.d4).
