This is the MacDonnell Gambit - I think it would be better to castle on move 6 and then look for a possible d4 push.

Awesome! I can't see this ever being refuted. Are you the creator of this inspiring novelty?

 Its not in game explorer...

sorry for the rookie question but I've never heard of this gambit and im currently testing out a number of gambits could you tell me what part of the OP variation is the actual gambit.

Looks like a barrel o' laughs, though Black wasn't forced to be this greedy and White needs a huge attack to justify the material deficit. Laughing

More like ?! for the last several moves. It'd be a great Drunken Chess opening though - Black would struggle to hold this position with four shots on board and White as sober as a judge. Laughing

 Lets play in the forum

My move!

Chessmaster - 1. e4 e5 2. Bc4 Bc5 3. b4 Bxb4 4. f4 is the gambit. I'd have to look a little further into the theory, but it looks like it combines elements of the Evans and King's Gambits. Black usually opts for 2.Nf6 though, but there are gambit's extending from this such as the Urusov.

the unique combination of the evans and kings gambit are what intreast me most about this opening.

Chess4001

white castles, has the center and developed a couple pieces for 4 pawns. nice!

chessmaster102

I think its dubioust to be honest cause what white is playing for can be achieved at move 6 with 0-0 andthe extra 2 pawns white gambits are just for show and to look flashy as it isn't nesscarry.

chessmaster102

castling develops a rook thats already widely known =)

Ever heard of "move-order" ?

6 d4 is much stronger, but of course what would I know? You're the master.

In some openings(like certain variations of the King's Indian Attack), White castles, has the centre and has developed three pieces, including a strong fianchettoed bishop controlling the longest diagonal on the board, for 0 pawns.

I'm not giving up 4 pawns unless it forces a material gain of more than 4 pawns, gives me a crushing attack(note that the attack must be on the opposite side of the gambited pawns, so if the a, b, c and d pawns were gambited, the attack must be on the kingside) or forces mate.

Just glancing at the position after Kh1 I'd say white is winning... or at least better.

After 1...Bg3 (which makes zero sense) if there's any justice in chess white should have a forced win.  Bxf7 looks like a good way to begin this justice :)

Move 3 Qh5 threatning mate then Qxe5+

Wow, you've just refuted the Classical Defence to the Bishop's Opening.

...Oh wait, no, 3. ... Qe7 holds everything. Damn. Back to the drawing board eh?
