Spassky famous blunder 67 Rd1+...Please comment

How is that a blunder? If he plays Rh8, shouldn't fischer play c3...... or maybe I'm just wrong.... I guess it was a blunder.

rooperi

I would have tried 67 Rh8. But what do I know....

slack

67. Rh8 c3+ if 68. Kxc3 a1=Q+ 69. King anywhere Rxh8; instead 68. Kxb3 a1=Q

so what your saying slack is borris made the correct move then?

slack

I don't know. Instead of 68. Kxb3, he might've played Ka1.

slack

Maybe 68. Ka1 c2 69. Kb2 c1=Q+ 70. Kxc1 a1=Q+ 71. Kd2 Rxh8

It seems like Rd1+ was better than Rh8.

according to the book Rd1 was a ?? blunder as it allows the black king near the f pawn. white should have kept the king seperated from the pawn tats y
