Because with 1...e5 being IMHO the hardest response to beat, I consider myself fortunate enough to have decent results over the board with the Slow Italian - No reason to play the Scotch or Vienna:

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 (3...Nf6 4.d3) O-O Nf6 5.d3 and now:

A) 5...d6 6.c3

B) 5...O-O 6.Bg5

And as Black, when I used to occasionally play 1...e5, it was Petroff.  Now I play the French exclusively.  So I would see neither as Black either!

Ruy Lopez, Scotch, Italian, 4 knights, Vienna, alll have their own merits. Objectively, the Vienna is the least theory-heavy, as well as the least dangerous for Black.

Italian until you reach 2000

vedTripathi

Try Evans gambit

I answered that question in post 4,  and the answer remains the same - neither!  I would not play either one of them for any reason, White or Black.  I would rather play tic-tac-toe than either of those openings!

It's like asking a fan of Action Movies whether they'd rather watch Concussion (a documentary about retired football players) or You've Got Mail (a romantic comedy).  Response to both would be GAG and GAG!  I personally liked Concussion, but someone that only watches action movies would be bored to tears.  Well, not saying the Scotch or Vienna is unsound, and both have their fans, but to me, they are GAG and GAG (like Avatar and Titanic - two movies I really would GAG at having to watch).
