The Vienna Gambit

I am quite new to  1.e4 and I was looking for a line to play without too much revision. I use the vienna gambit and i had a successful game

Again this is out of theory, what I like about this opening that it is both sound and aggresive. I agree, no books will help as there are very few reasnoble lines

Is the vienna gambit sound? any books on it?

3...exf4?? is junk of the highest order and theory rightly recommends 3...d5

3. ... d5 is indeed the book reply to the gambit.

Another interesting line in the Vienna is:

I play the Vienna Gambit a lot, and have had some fine wins with it. You can play exf4 as black, but do not continue Qe7, after e5, instead play Ng8. Brett Tindall, a strong 2200 player, played this as black.against me, and eventually held the pawn and won.

Wins like this occur frequently in Vienna Gambit. We get a huge development, Center and initiative. If opponent goes wrong, which 90% of times at intermediate/beginners level he goes.

Here's my nice win in the Vienna

It is a good opening: it is sound and most black players have no experience with it.

I use the Vienna all the time, and the VG is my favourite line. Hardly anyone knows to play 3...d5, and most 'human' replies like 3...Nc6, 3...d6, 3...exf4 all give white a great game.

Just chiming in to point out you missed a winning move in the opening.

8.Nd5! wins on the spot.

This is the usual reply when there is the Qe2/Qe7 opposition, and black push a pawn to d6 or f6.  This is because if black's Qe7 is forced to move, then there is a discovered check by exd6+ or exf6+, with the Nd5 offering forking tactics.

Black's replies are all losing by (computer advantage for white ranges from+6 to +8)

8...Qe6 runs into 9.Nxc7+ forking K and Q.

8...Qd7/Qd8 can be met with 9.exd6+ or the fancier 9.Nxc7+ which i have played in dozens of blitz games.

8...Nxd4 is the best reply (computer ish move, no one's ever played against me) but it's still losing due to the Nxc7 fork

If anyone reads this and likes the Vienna, please know that black rarely knows what to do. If they play 1...e5, they face the Vienna 2.Nc3 once for every 26 times they face 2.Nf3.  So if you use it all the time you are going to know it much better than they will.

A good place to start is YouTube searching "Vienna Game Gambit". The best videos are by GothamChess and The Butcher.

1.e4 e5 2.Nc3 Nf6 3.f4 is not the Vienna Gambit.  It is a variation in the Vienna Game.

The Vienna Gambit is 1.e4 e5 2.Nc3 Nc6 3.f4 and accepting is strongest.

In the 3.f4 line of the Vienna Game, taking is practically a blunder.  3...d5 equalizes.
