The Wilkes-Barre/Traxler is +/- to +-

Rumors of the demise of the Wilkes-Barre/Traxler (WBT) are often based on overly optimistic evaluations of White's chances. A critical improvement at the start of this sequence permitted me, a 1700 player, to beat a 2700 level computer (Fritz 8)

in one of the sharpest openings in all of chess. It is an ideal way to turn a sharp opening into one where long-range planning rather than pure tactics dominate.

Here are some minor corrections and additions to this site e.g. 8.Nf3 Bg4 9.d3 Bxf3 10.gxf3 Nxe4 11.Qe2 Nxf2 12.Bg5ch +/-

or 8.Nf3 Nxe4 9.Qe2 Nxf2 10.Rf1 Rf5 11.d3 Kf8 12.Rxf2 Bxf2ch 13.Kxf2 Qd4ch 14.Qe3 Be6, just 15.Nc3 is +- (not c3)

30...b6?!  The real test is 30...g5!? (better to lose quickly!) 31.f5 & the connected passers are winning. The combination takes a little time to calculate i.e. 31...gxh4 32.gxh4 Qxh4ch 33.Qh2 Qg5 34.Nf3 Bxf3 35.Rxf3 Rh6 36.Rh3+-
