The wing gambit

Below is an example of the wing gambit I had in a recent game I played. When I saw the move I almost laughed, but I found out it was awkward to combat this strange gambit. Any suggestions?

That would lead to very sharp positons.

3...d5 is the main line, and black is in very good shape. I don't even know much theory at all past 4.exd5 Qxd5 5.Nf3 but I still usually get good positions against the wing gambit, often just a pawn up for nothing. If you learn the lines after 3...d5, then white probably can't even reach equality from a theoretical point of view.

For my part I care much less about whether some theoretic equality has been reached, I don't believe the first move has all that much advantage any longer, but I do care about the style of game that is arrived at.  I find the typical response to the Sicilian unsatisfying.  Win, Lose or Draw, the games do not tend to pull me in as much as I like.  I have tried the Wing Gambit in the Sicilian and, although I have lost more than I won, it has been an enjoying romp each time.  That is the point is it not?

White's aiming for total control of the centre by playing 2. b4
So, how about white moves 3. d4 after Black captured 2. ... cxb4?

3... d5!

LavaRook

or 3...Nf6! as suggested in Ftacnik's book

This thread has been inactive for awhile. I have only faced the Wing Gambit a few times since I posted this 2 years ago, and it worked out fine for me when I played 3...d5
