I was trying to say, "Listen to tonydal and probably everyone else who tries to help." I'm not sure how much of this advice is being taken to heart with retorts along the line of, "You're wrong. Your suggestion 'X' doesn't leave weaknesses."

By all means, have a debate. But please don't steer into the abyss right behind the last thread.

I know, thats what Im saying too. I completely agree with you.

I highly doubt that any opponent would play the order you suggested. I think that this would be the most popular way to play for black.

Hey,
I have found an opening for white which I really like shown below. I have shown the moves that I think black would play.
Please tell me what you think and any improvements that could be made.

personally, I hate the black knights tango. It is very uncomfortable for me. why not play the Nimzo-Indian?

I reliased that e4 wins a piece and thought I would have to take that pawn.

Please explain what you mean by the black knights tango.

Okay thanks but I do not really see anything wrong with it.

although playable, its known as slightly weaker than other indian defenses...

either way, how many times do you see it? if working on a system then you should first start by looking at blacks most popular moves. I dont play 1.d4 2.c4 but Im guessing the popularity order would be- 1st d5/c6 2nd Nf6/e6 3rd Nf6/g6 although not sure

I totally agree with derrrp. you must familiarize yourself with the well known opening. The dilemma arises when your opponent uses a different or not so well know opening.

regarding on the game you post at the start of this thread, I think you opponent is trying to reach a position similar to an Old Indian (though the pawn is on e6 instead of e5 and the light squared bishop is not developed), though it has a very odd beginning but he has reached the position. Or I could be wrong.

with respect to the earlier posts, I think experience comes into play. If you are not sure about the line you are playing then it would be wise to steer the game into your "territorial area". that may give him a value of surprise (unless of course, if your opponent is very well prepared).

For your position e5 would no longer lose a piece after I develop the Queen to c2.

I like to develop my Kingside pieces first so that if my opponent does pin my Queen's knight, I can castle hence breaking the pin.
