How to go from 500 elo to 1200 elo.

This post is about a three step process to get much better at chess.

1. Learn and study a real opening

A lot of people will blunder in the opening stage of the game. This means you can beat a lot of players by learning a real opening and studying so you know how to play it.

2. Play longer games

If you play longer games it will allow you to deeply calculate lines that you wouldn't be able to calculate in a bullet or blitz game. Also you can learn more from games where you can play at your best level rather than playing 300 bullet games a day just to get to the top of your league.

3. Look for C.C.A

C.C.A is an acronym for Checks, Captures, Attacks. When looking for tactics in this rating range many people just play random moves and end up blundering. What you should do is look for checks, captures and attacks. This is because these moves are what force your opponent to react and focus on your threat rather than their own.

So in summary, to improve your rating from 500 to 1200+ you should learn and study a good opening, take your time and play long games, and look for cca in games.

Too add(not to say #1’s tip is bad, but just to add and make tip 3 simpler), for tip 3 you should look at your opponent’s side of the board and then you do cca. This shortens your options by alot which makes it easier.

Be careful when you take hanging pieces. They sometimes may be attached to a trap
