Hmm I tried searching around a bit but didn't notice something off the bat. Out of curiosity, what is the benefit of playing 1.g3 rather than 1.Nf3? Maybe this one of those systems where White plays e3 and Ne2? I only ask because if you are going to play Nf3 anyway, there are a ton of GMs who play 1.Nf3
Tiger's Modern Reversed

Years ago, I had come across a GM with a smiliar repertoire, but I can't seem to find him anywhere again. He opened g3 or g6.
That may have been Kevin Spraggett.

Welearnchess: benefit us to steer game into channels in familiar with playing modern, allowing black to grab the centre with both central pawns - Nf3 prevents d5.

This isn't a GM, but a pretty high-rated user just posted a couple of games with 1.g3 in case you're interested.

Thanks; he's using it to transition into standard qp or English - I'm actually aiming for our reversed modern with a3.

Karen Movsziszian and Thorsten Michael Haub both play Tiger's Modern in reverse with decent results.
I believe 1 g3 is also called Benko's Opening or the Hungarian Opening. So you can look for games by GM Pal Benko. I don't know if he ever played an early a3. I'm sure Eric Schiller analyzed it in his book on unorthodox openings.

In Larsen's best games, you can see him play g3 many times, mostly with transportation to reversed Alekhine, reversed Pirc or reversed King's Indian. But I've never seen him play a Reversed Modern defence. The main problem that I see with these reversed defences is when black copies white ie. g6, Bg7 etc... Same for a KIA meeting a KID. There's no unbalance anymore.
Having very little time to study (or remember) chess openings--and also because I love the creativity and positions--I'm switching to Tiger's Modern, and trying to play the same as white.

Anyone know whom I'm talking about? Or GMs that use a reverse modern?
Thanks...
