Hello,

I love tactical and attacking games, specially where you have tricks if black is not well prepared, and with Vienna Game you get a lot of fun in this aspect, in adition it is not so known as Italian Game or other openings where people use to be more prepared

As there are no may games in the game explorer sometimes I have doubts about which are the best moves.

But to be more concrete after 1e4, e5, 2nf3, nf6 , I do like to play 3.f4, I have observed that people use to accept this gambit and after this white has good chances, white can play e5, and start the attack, and people (at lower level do not use to play D5 that would be the best response.

I also like to play this gambit if black plays 2. Nc6

But I have the feeling that could be too risky and that "may be " is better to play 3 Bc4.

I do not what is the best choice, or may be both are good, depending if this day you want to play more aggresive or not. That was my question

By the way, now that you mention Bishop`s Opening that was the other main option that I had I had in mind about what to choose and in first place but far from VG and BO o Ponziani, . I chose Vienna beacuse  I liked this gambit I have just mentioned at the third move and then advancing the pawn to e5

I am just goint to start a book  "Attacking with e4" of John Emms where he describe Bishop´s Openinng, I am goint to study it for sure, because either I play Vienna Game or change to Bishop´s Opening it is going to be pretty useful for sure as there are a lot of common choices

What do you think of this three openings, specially VG and BO? I have seen in several post that you have quite a good understanding of the openings, so it its interesting for me your point of view, is th BO strongest?

Thanks!

@ Xbiker : ok but almost nobody fells into 1.e4 e5 2.Nc3 Nf6 3.f4 exf4?? 4.e5 which is nearly winning for white...

If u just play Vienna for this kind of reason, u won't be able to fight against stronger opponents who will play 3....d5 which sets problem for white...

Indeed 3.Bc4 or 3.g3 (my favourite and some top GM play it sometimes), or even Nf3 to transpose into 4 knights (though black has Bb4) are all safer and probably better.

On 1.e4 e5, there is no really good sharp opening for white, all gambits and strange creatures are well countered if black know his stuff.

Just develop well your pieces, and attack will come naturally : Giuoco pianissimo can be very sharp (look Tiviakov's games), with very good fundations...

Hello, for what you say my conclusion is:

-if I play Vienna Game, it is better is safer to play 3Bc4, that was was I was trying lately, which I also like. In fact if black plays 2Nc6, and 3Bc5 there is another interesting move, trick, not so expected al lower levels which is Qg4

- The KGD can be reached at move 5 and it is also a powerful an interesting alternative

- It is better to get there from BO

- If black plays 2Nf6, I can play D4 to avoid a slow game, which seems interesting for me, I had never think of it I only took into account d3, it seems a good idea.

You have clarified me quite a lot, now I will try out myself with a "mix" of both openings, which I really like, and to experiment myself

Thanks a million!!

I have used the Vienna opening and found it a good response against Nf6 or Nc6 but doesn't work well against others. Are there any suggestions of openings after e4 Nc3 for white.

@ ezamit : ?

if not Nf6 or Nc6, what are the other moves for black after 1.e4 e5 2.Nc3?

1.e4 e5 2.Nc3 Bc5 3.Nf3! and black has a problem, cannot transpose to italian game or other paths since 3...Nc6 goes into 4.Nxe5 and 3...d6 4.d4 exd4 5.Nxd4 with a good scotch for white where d6 was not optimal in scotch Bc5...

Thanks IM Poucin. Nc5 got a little tricky for me in one game. Not sure what i did wrong.

Kg1... Your king is safe (if Qh4 simply g3), develop your pieces : Bc4 and Rf1 before Kg1.

Then u have nice advantage with centre and bishops pair.
