what could be a good repetoire to avoid simplifications?

my guess would be openings that you can keep closed for a while avoiding exchanges of pieces and opening the position later so i guess 1.d4 or 1.c4 with white. with black maybe semislav and caro kann. or am i dead wrong? can i punish all those players who tries to trade everything when im opening 1.e4 and with black e4 e5 and tarrasch with black? actually the tarrasch havent been a problem for me on that front but i struggle with the others. maybe i just need some practiceLaughing any help appriciated

Don't forget the Pirc! Quite dynamic, that little openingLaughing

ive played the pirc and i like it:) i just forgot to mention it in my first post

The dragon tends to keep some of the pieces on for a while, at least when I play it it does.

me to:) the problem is i almost never face the open sicilian. i dont know why. in my opinion its the most fun line for white

Heh, I've found a lot of white players are scared off by the open sicilian.   It gives black the choice of the Dragon, Schvengen, Najdorf, as well as transpositional chances into the Taminov, Kalishnikov and probably a few other variations as well.   There's mountains of theory on EACH of those systems.   Black's only got to know the one he plans on playing.   If white's gonna play the Open Sicilian he's got be prepared to meet ALL of them.

That's my theory at any rate.

Fairly low-theory, and high on the keep-pieces-on-the-board scale:

King's indian attack vs: French, Caro, e6 Sicilians via 1e4, 2Nf3, 3d3.

Kingside fianchetto vs Scandinavian.

Giuoco Pianissimo setups with pawns on c3/d3 vs ...e5 +Nc6, Philidors, d6 Sicilians.

4 Knights w/g3 vs Petroff.

4. d3 against 1.e4e5 2.Nf3Nf6 3.Nc3Bb4.

All are played at 2400+ with at least some regularity, so these aren't copouts, but lead to quiet buildup type attacks with fairly little risk for white.  None are exactly easy, mind you.  But it fits your requirements.

Against 1.b6/g6, there's no concern, since those openings are bound to lead to quiet early play almost no matter what.

You'd still need something against the Nc6 Sicilians, but you could do worse than the Rossolimo.

Alternatively: 1.b3.

As white, defintately 1.c4. As black I'd suggest slav + caro-kann.

thanks for many good suggestions:) i will look closer at the english if only because all books by mihail marin are fantastic and a very enjoyable read and a friend of mine have houskas caro kann book and a slavbook by vigus something that i can borrow

Sicilian means lots of counterattack with black and a lot of times also means opposite-castling

Avatar of DrizztD

Why are people suggesting the caro as black? To AVOID simplifications? The entire plan black has (at least that I know, I could be wrong) is to simplify to a good endgame where white has weak pawns.

Hypermodern stuff like the reti, english, pirc/modern, king's indian...basically anything that delays the confrontation.

the caro kann can be played in alot of ways, both karpov and kasparov played it but completely different. its also one of topalovs favourites and he sure doesnt play boring chess:) black wants to develop the pieces and then try to challenge white space and it gets complicated. and i havent had a single draw with the caro kann:)

I would play against the  Najdorf as white, all lines winning for white, great sacs!!! the game plan is to keep the adrenalin high

Marin + Houska and/or Schandorff + Vigus = win. You'll never go back to any other repetoire ever. I've tried almost every major opening out there. These are the ones that have definately impressed me. You'll open solidly but 100% sound and with every chance to win. Also you'll get the added bonus of being hated. Black players HATE to face weird stuff like 1.c4. White players cringe when facing caro or slavs. Gotta love that.

I would suggest the leningrad dutch for 1.d4. Extremely sharp, and if you study it, you WILL be better prepared than your opponent.
