What defense to d4 players hate?

1.d4 players, what is the defense you hate to see your opponent play?

gorgeous_vulture

I'm a lowly class C/D player and openings rarely get played well at my level. However, the one I dislike the most is the Dutch, in almost all its forms.

The Tarrasch Defense huh... I'm surprised because that opening seems to score incredibly poorly for black, especially after 4. cxd.

Do d4 players often encounter the english defense (1.d4 e6 2.c4 b6)?  Do you find it difficult to play against?

Elephant007

Tarrasch defense is really dangerous if black knows how to play , and d4 players will face with a lot of traps if you use this defense correctly .

I hate the King's Indian so much that I quite left playing 1. d4. Earlier I played 1. d4 hoping to play the Catalan. Now I play c4, e4 and f4.

EnemyGenerator

the most critical to d4 seems to be both grundfeld and slav/semi slav because both theory and practise have shown that it's hard to gain something of a edge going as white. I completely disagree with the Tarrasch being anoying or good. For as far is I know Kasparov is a very good IQP player and great with dynamic chances but he gave up on the defence afther karpov got textbook examples of why the Tarrasch isn't used at the highest level.

but I think this isn't what the OP is aking. i guess he wants advice what defence he should play. the only tip I can give is look at evrything that looks attractive to you not what your opponent may not like. also if no one or almost no 2600+ players play the defense there is problably something wrong with it

ChessSoldier

I hate the Gruenfeld.  It's just so counterintuitive.

Oraoradeki

More d4 players hate the nimzo-indian so much that they deliberately play 3. Nf3 just to avoid it!

anyway I think the real challenge to d4 is 1...d5

Some players don't like Budapest, probably because they don't know it well, but it's not a best choice since white can reach a slight, but constant advantage. This could be a choice for short games, especially the not well-known 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 e5 3. dxe5 Ng4 4. Bf4 Bb4+ 5. Nbd2 d6 6. exd6 Qf6. Who don't know the right answer (as I remember dxc7 Nc6 and then e3 and Qb3) to it can lose as white.

BattleManager

I'm not a d4 player but i get the idea that they're not big fans of things like 1.d4 d6 2.c4 e5 or 1.d4 d6 2.Nf3 Bg4 or the Old Indian 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 d6 3.Nc3 e5 and if 4.Nf3 play after 4...e4 looks extremely irregular.

I dont like seeing the Blumfeld defense only cause of my lack of experiance against it but when I do actually come across it I usually do fine.

Lucidish_Lux

I'm a Leningrad Dutch player, and notice even class B and the occasional class A player stumbling a bit against it.

Nimzo indian is by far the most annoying defense to 1.d4

The first time I saw the Albin countergambit (1.d4 d5 2. c4 e5) I was quite flustered. It leads to positions far removed from the typical QGD setups, and has a pretty deadly trap if white is careless early:

I'm not a d4 player but ive noticed how most of my opps get confused and make too many mistakes when i play the benko gambit.Even I get annoyed when somebody plays the benko during blitz games in which i play d4

ALbin Counter Gambit is the most annoying for White d4 players. It takes them out of their studied lines and if paired with Pawn to f6 with Queen recapture is great!! I recently played it against GM Sam Shankland in a Simul and it won me the game. THe opening gives great development and attacking chances. I am sure though GM Shankland would have crushed me if it wasn't a Simul.
