If you think that's hard...

It's even more confusing when white plays the Scandinavian defense and you're black.

I'm doing it in a couple daily games

I was just kidding. It's impossible.

How embarrassing for you.

1.d3 e5 2.d4!!!!!!!!!!! 1-0

Dayum. Much logic. Very smart.

I resign.

If Black Plays the Scandi and you don't like to play the Blackmar-Diemer Gambit, just take. Do beware of Gambits that arise from 2. exd5 e6 because the Icelandic/Boehnke Gambit sets up a good developement for black and also makes it easier for black to start an attack

You can also transpose to the French if you advance the pawn instead of capturing

Then White replies Nce2, followed by a K-side fianchetto, castling, then d2-d3 and we have a reversed King's Indian where White can choose between a number of good systems.

Pushing on again with the d-Pawn (d4-d3 after White has played Nce2) is of course pointless since White simply moves the Knight again instead of capturing on d3.

Of course, if you don't like the King's Indian Defense as Black then you won't like this line as White.

yeah

so black hasnt played e6 yet right?

isnt the kia by 1.e4 move order suboptimal if black hasnt played e6??

also with a knight on e2 is this the kia?

Suboptimal because Black can maintain a duo of Pawns on e5 and d5. But not if he pushes d5-d4. We only entered a reversed KID after Black played that move.

This isn't a KIA. It's a reversed KID.

The e2 (or e7) square is a perfectly good place for the Queen's Knight. It supports f2-f4 (f7-f5 for Black), pressures the enemy center Pawns and covers the square complex left poorly guarded by the d3/e4 (d6/e5) Pawn chain.

ok

white can be fine

thats what a sound opening is

"fine"

id prefer black but people can differ

thats ok

thats fine

This line is a poor idea for White and actually loses the first move advantage. [Black is a little better]

I thought the whole point of the Scandi was to get a caro structure without dealing with the advance variation?

In the mainline, yes, Every possible opening has side-lines, though.

You can reach a Caro-Kann sideline via a Scandinavian side-line... entering the Panov-Botvinnik Attack via the Scandinavian Gambit:

This gives you the same position as:
