There is no "best" opening, though there are some that are clearly inferior. Some are more popular than others, and some are playable but considered "theoretically unsound" at a master level. That said, I'll add my $0.02:

Siclian Najdorf v Sicilian Dragon - Toss a coin. Doesn't matter really, just pick one.

Scandinavian v Alkeline - Neither for me. Scandinavian involves less theory. By the way, not to be a grammar nazi here, but it's Alekhine (pronounced ah-LEK-een).

French v Caro kann - Both are widely considered to be very solid, and both have their drawbacks as well. I probably play the French more often, personally. Karpov was a fan of the Caro-Kann.

Grunfeld v Kings Indian - Of these two I prefer the King's Indian, but Gruenfeld is equally solid.

Stonewall(dutch) v Benko Gambit - Gambits are good if you like a quick counter-attack. I don't play either of these often, personally.

QGD v QGA - QGD for me. The classical opinion of opening theory was that "Black should accept the King's Gambit and decline the Queen's Gambit". QGA is perfectly fine too, though, as long as Black doesn't try to hold on to the pawn.

Slav v Semi Slav - Again, toss a coin. The main purpose of the Slav is to avoid one of the difficulties of the traditional QGD, in which Black's queen's bishop normally has very limited scope. Semi-slav has also been tested by decades of master play and deemed perfectly solid for Black.

Hedgehog v Hedhog double finachetto (6....g6) - Never tried either myself.

English defence v 1..e5 systems - 1...e5 for me, usually. Just a preference though.

I was trying to research the hedgehog, but since it is a system and not an opening i couldn't find it in the opening database.  Does anyone know where i could find info and games on it?

Against 1 e4

Siclian Najdorf v Sicilian Dragon : I prefer the dragon here, but only because I have almost no experience with the Najdorf. Out of all the sicilian systems I like the Sveshnikov the best.

Scandinavian v Alkeline : The Scandinavian is really boring in my opinion, I don't really like the Alekhine either but if I had to pick one I would go with the Alekhine.

French v Caro kann : French for life! It's my main defence against e4 :)

And 1 d4

Grunfeld v Kings Indian : The king's indian is more theory intensive than the grunfeld, but I prefer the structure of the KID, and it can be used against everything except for 1.e4

Stonewall(dutch) v Benko Gambit: Benko Gambit is my main defence against d4,I love it. I tried the dutch long ago but couldn't get a decent position.

QGD v QGA: Both are pretty boring in my opinion.

Slav v Semi Slav: ridiculous amounts of theory

and 1 c4

Hedgehog v Hedhog double finachetto (6....g6) : I don't like the hedgehog much...seems like white has all the fun, it's very solid though.

English defence v 1..e5 systems: English defence is pretty lame...and "e5 systems" are very general as there are a ton of them, but the reversed dragon is what all the super GMs are using these days so it might be worth a look.

I like the pure dynamism of the Dragon and King's Indian. These are my favorite openings.

The Scandinavian makes a lot of sense to me, and the Alkaline doesn't, although I play neither.

I have tried both the French and Caro-Kann and decided that I don't really like either, although it seemed like there was more to the Caro-Kann.

I definitely have much more respect for the Benko than the Dutch.

I think the QGA gives white too much, and have a more difficult time when facing the semi-slav than the pure slav.

I think 1...e5 against the English is the most critical. I personally play 1...g6 and ...Nf6 to try to control what white sets up, happy to play a King's Indian.

I prefer the Najdorf-The Dragon is too double edged for my taste.

I prefer the Scandinavian-Alekhine just is dumb

I would die for my French-It is the best opening by far.

KID-I hate the structure of the Gruenfeld.

I hate both the Dutch and the Benko, but I would choose the Dutch.

QGA is a lot more fun.

Semi Slav is better, but it has SO much theory

I don't know squat against the English.  Gotta work on that.
