what do you think about Owen´s defense? 1.e4 b6

Crap opening. White just has to protect his e pawn with Qe2 move and maintain flexibility of c pawn, easy advantage. GG no RE.

A horrible defense and at low level is guarantee win for white; white as all the fun and black is defending.

It seems fine to me though black has to be careful since white usually has good center control and a space advantage.

And while the ignorants say that Owen's defense is crap , the World Champion played it today against one of the most well prepared GMs(Pavel Eljanov) and equalised easily. At move 20 right now he has already an advantage. My guess is that he will have a winning position before move 30.
A crap opening indeed.
Yes, it is a crap opening. Just because Magnus played it means nothing.

A good second string occasional surprise weapon IMHO. White has to know precise lines to get an edge.
good for blitz, but I found that if the opponent knows what he's doing, you will just get a bad version of the french advanced where you fianchetto your bishop who is staring into his own pawn chain.
At a certain level you will just get a worse closed position out of the opening and suffer and defend for the rest of the game...

ts cause carlsen is playing against a much weaker player compared to him.
Much weaker? He is one of the favorites for first place.
But even if indeed he is "much weaker".If the opening is crap he should at least get a clear advantage from it and lose later.
Carlsen is not naive or stupid. That was an important game with one of the challengers of the first place. He wouldn't play something that would get him in trouble from the first moves.
Agreed.

I agree , the fact that Magnus played it means nothing.
The fact that he played it against one of the most well prepared GMs today , he equalised on move 7(-0.10 according to Houdini) got a clear advantage on move 20(-1.00 according to Houdini) and won on move 29 , means nothing too?
No, it doesn't mean anything, when you consider 2 factors.
1)Psychological advantage of being Carlsen, him playing a move like that would fluster anyone else in the world. Similar to him beating Kramnik with the Bird.
2)Eljanov played a bad line, so much for his elite "prep".
And a bad opening doesn't force a loss, your definition is too extreme. The Owen is objectively inferior to e5/c5/e6/c6/d5, and therefore it sucks. "Zomg Magnuz won a game with it!" doesn't mean anything.
I would like to hear your opinion on this: Owen´s defense 1.e4 b6
