How did you get into chess?

My school used to have a chess club, I was quite interested in it so I joined it. There was a guy who was pretty good at chess, people said the guy was the best in the school. So I wanted to compete with him. I learned openings, middlegames and endgames but I wasn't quite good yet. Then I played a game with him when I was new, of course I got destroyed. So I started to take chess seriously and learn more. Then eventually after I practiced months, I became the same skill level as him, then after I played more chess games and analyzed them I learned my mistakes, then I got tips like "do not blunder" which helped me a lot. So after that I beat him, now I'm trying to reach 1000 at rapid.
1950's kid. Had more fun things to do than chess. Playing ball, riding bikes, fishing and just running around. Fast forward now in my seventies. Was in the army, married, kids the whole life thing. And then covid hit, lockdown!! Learned to play chess. That is how I got into chess.
