I thought you were supposed to try to avoid blocking your c-pawn with your knight in d-pawn openings.

This opening looks like a Pirc Defense by transposition, it is not a KID and therefore not a d4 opening either since the Pirc arises from 1.e4 d6 2.d4 Nf6. Check it out in the Game Explorer here.

Exactly, without c4 the King's Indian is a Pirc; I do find it kind of irritating when people make me play the Pirc (I'm a K's Ind player :P)
