whatupyodog, I'd just go with the Parham. I have a similar thread, all I hear is ruy lopez, one of the most passive chess games. Just go with the Parham, and roll with it. It scares off people rated 200 points higher than you, so just go for it.

Any opening for black is struggling for equality because white has tempo to spend on a quick attack if he wants to. The Parham gives Black tempo on a silver platter.

If anything black loses a tempo(which dont matter anyway) because of wasting moves to defend pieces or mate.
