Why did I just win an opponent with about the same points as myself in a 3 min game and I gained 9 points while he lost 189 ?? I don't understand the point system

The site uses the Glicko rating system. That includes a measure of rating uncertainty called the rating deviation (RD) value. Players with few games in a pool, or longer gaps in play, will have a higher RD value and see larger rating changes after games. As more games get played, that RD value decreases, as does the magnitude of rating changes.
