Does making a best openning makes you a winner?

DGildasMix

Old question and old answer : The best chess opening is the one that the other player doesn't know how to handle . Easy ! Innocent

No problem , it's not from me really, i heard that each time i asked the same question to the very good chess players i know. I know how it can be a frustration but it is not about the openings but about your opponents, that what these guys told me ! Therefore they also consider that their is only few openings you should use if you play good players and don't want to be destroyed in 10 mooves. This is why a master never start with the pawn A for example, because otherwise he already lost the game pretty much. Well good luck for the perfect opening quest ! Cool

So if you are stronger than your opponent, can you really play 1.h4 and win?

But I tend to think that there may be some openings that have greater chances of success, against an average player, than others. I would love to learn these first. This may also depend on the color of the pieces you have to play, and the opening or defense that tthe other player uses.

I have also heard thet there are some opening traps, and once oyu fall into one of these it is close to impossible to recover, provided you are playing against someone in your range of play.

It simply depends on the person.  I prefer the french defense and e4

Castle149

Why don't you like the French Defense.

duskrevival

For some reason I just hate the French Defence too. The Caro-Kann has no problems French Defence=Frown

Conquistador

The Bongcloud is undefeated in world championship play.

1.e4 e5 2.Ke2!!

x47humanoid

You only hate the french defense because you LOSE!!! against it

For those of you wondering the french defense is pictured below

Although the Caro-kann is a strong defense it weakens the queenside

x47humanoid

RIGHT the queen side is weakened.   Did you  get my request please accept and you can play the Caro-kann

Mezmer

"RIGHT the queen side is weakened."

The Caro-kann may have a weaker queensideside in some cases, but in contrast the French can have a difficult bishop to work with.

Every (sound) defense will have it's strengths and weaknesses. It's all about using the strengths to find opportunities and mitigating threats against your weaknesses. Some may have more strengths at the expense of having more weaknesses, or less weaknesses with less strengths - it's a matter of finding what (balance/position/plan) works for you. Smile
