What is the most aggressive way to respond to the french defense?

I am an aggressive player but I am having trouble against the french defense, mainly because I can't attack the weak f7 square with my bishop (bc4). Do you know any ways I can play against the french defense?

BlackKaweah

3. e5

Dugbug_24

so like this? I don't feel like this works because black can play c5 immediately, and this often transposes into a closed position (which is bad for attacking), but I'll try it out!

advance variation is my favorite as white (3. e5). you need to know a little theory to not fall into traps and understand how to give black the most problems. its not an open attacking position, but that's chess. cant force it to be fierce if the position doesn't call for it. if you really want an open attacking game every single time try 1. h4

Dugbug_24

ok, thanks!

H4 is not good

Plz ban me

Plenty of attack in 3. e5. Look at that kingside, black is very restricted.

to summarize:

e5 is an easy way to quickly gain a central space advantage and neglect black's development on the kingside. The only drawback is a closed position, which is almost unavoidable

nc3 is a strong way to try and maintain the center and develop a piece towards the center. It opens up lines for many traps but can succumb to an annoying pin after 3...bb4

Black will never play... c4 if he/she knows what they're doing.

Restriction does not mean attack.

Chess.com is a fraud.  After promoting my pawn to Queen and renewing my attack on the King, the computer called it a stalemate even before I moved my Queen.  The reality is that on my next move I would have checkmated the White King.  Garbage.  Just garbage.  Better options than this website where when the player beats the computer, the computer at least acknowledges the loss.  Sounds like some developer got his ego hurt.

Personally, I am an aggressive player myself, but play the Tarrasch variation (3. Nd2) against the French, and score pretty well. There's a more dynamic option, the la Bourdannis variation, which goes like this:

But I have no idea what white should do now. Perhaps that's why it's never played at high levels.

I'm pretty sure it's called stalemate. Either that or you're trolling lol

If you want something aggressive and tactical against the French, why not look at the Qg4 lines in the Winawer?

But that requires all the other Nc3 theory as well. Phew, too much work lol

Albin-Chatard against the Classical. And the 8. Qg4 line against the MacCutcheon. No need to study ALL of the Nc3 theory if you are only going to play a few specific lines.
