What is the name of the opening for black that mixes modern defense with caro kann?

I am talking about an opening for black that is something similar to below (I just made random moves for white). Basically you start off similar to a Modern defense with g6 and bg7 but then you do the two moves that you usually start off with caro kann right after which is c6 d5. I see Hikaru doing this opening a lot and was interested in it

Thanks for the reply! This seems like it, although when i looked it up seemed like the moves were reversed. It seems for the Gurgenidze you do a caro kann and then fianchetto afterwards. When Hikaru does this opening, he starts off with the fianchetto and then does caro kann.

You can do it in either order. It's a formation rather than an opening as such.

Got it, thanks a lot @FrogCDE

Incidentally, if you like this formation of a kingside fianchetto coupled with c6/d5 you should look at the c6 Gruenfeld and the kingside fianchetto var of the Caro-Kann to get an idea of how white might attack it & how Black can fight back; it has a very solid reputation.

There's a book by GM Jann Ehlvest titled The Modern Gurgenidze that was published in 2023.

In the book, after 1 e4 g6 2 d4 Bg7 3 Nf3 black plays the Modern with 3...d6. However, if white goes 3 Nc3 black switches to the Gurgenidze with 3...c6. The idea is to avoid the very dangerous Austrian Attack white could play against the Modern with 4 f4 after 3 Nc3 when the white f pawn is unblocked by a knight on f3. Also, 1 e4 g6 2 d4 Bg7 3 f4 d5 in covered.

The book also has some coverage on 1 d4 g6 2 c4, 1 c4 g6 2 Nc3, 1 d4 g6 2 Nf3, 1 b3 g6, 1 f4 g6.
