Ruy Lopez/ Sicilian Dragon´s variation

Vienna Game Anderssen Defense Hampee-Meinter Variation, something like that. It gives black a brilliant move in 3 moves:

I like the Alekhine, even though I haven't learned much of it. Pretty much none of it, really.

In case you don't already know, Alekhine's Defense is for Black to play 1... Nf6 if White opens 1.e4. That way White will be tempted to push their pawn in an attempt to chase after the Knight. Then you pop the knight over into the center. In frustration, they might just chase after it with a second pawn, which you can also strand further up the board.

If, instead, they respond by activating their own knight with 2.Nc3, then you have essentially a Scotch setup. You can push the d-pawn with 2...d5, and that's a pawn for a pawn and the two opposing knights focused on that square too. Just pre-move the Black Knight on to the Black pawn on d5 (which would be 3...Nxd5) and then pre-move your Queen on to the Black Knight now sitting at d5 (which is 4...Qxd5). Chances are White will play 3.exd5, then 4.Nxd5. This makes your Queen the only piece left in the center. If White decides to attack with their Bishop (5.Bc4) that opens it up to attack the Rook with 5...Qxg2).

Caro-Kann. Beautiful opening.
Black does not have to leave his d-pawn backward.
Its going to d5 on second move whether white likes it or not except there is white trying e5 on his second move. Almost never happens.
And Slav. Better than QGA. Simliar idea. And c6 can be played against 1) d4.

With white: Nf3 but you don't play a Reti.
White does not have to allow black to establish his d5 pawn at d4.

e4

Avatar of playerafar

e4 is the most popular first move.
It has a lot of good points but isn't perfect.
One of the good points is to discourage black's knight from coming out right away to f6.
Which is black's most popular first move by far. And most important move.
e4 is the one move by white that will confound that knight.
Players with black just don't want to reply to e4 with Nf6 and see their knight bumped by e5.

I knew I wouldn't get away with trying to be helpful.
