what openings do you guys play?

I know alot of oppenings but for beginners is good to just know the principles of an opening: 1) Open the game with a center pawn. 2) Develop your Knights before your Bishops. 3) Don't move your Queen too soon in the opening. 4) Castle early in order to protect your King. 5) Develop your Rooks to central or open files. 6) Look to develop an attack after you have fully mobilized your pieces. 7) Capture towards the center. 8) If you violate the above, your opponent will swiftly deal with you!

which one is the spanish opening? Ruy Lopez?
Yea ruy lopez=spanish oppening

If im playing a high rated opponent, i play the french defense coz im quite familiar about it. if the opponent is 'not so highly rated', i go for the sicilian.

I have quite a wide repetoire of openings, as Black against e4- the various Sicilian variations, Scandinavian, and the french while against d4- the modern benoni, black knights' tango and the budapest!
Its true that the french is kinda passive in some variations. However, it can lead to quite exciting play in others, whereby there is material inbalance put dynamic play!

Openings I'm completely comfortable with are
Scotch Defense/Gambit as White
Scandinavian as Black
Openings I'm experimenting with to increase my repetoire are
1.d4 openings, mostly Queen's Gambit Accepted/Declined as White
French Defense and Caro-Kann as Black

Edit: I've just found out what I was playing is actually called Queen's Fianchetto. Good old Chessmaster.
