The Slav is fine, Queen's Gambit also. Artur Yusupov recommends the Queen's Gambit Accepted in his books (Build up your chess). The arising positions are still tactical, but they teach you a lot about positional understanding. Go to YouTube, watch some videos where a master explains the ideas behind different openings and see if you like them and if you can handle the resulting middlegame positions (I know that's tough in the Grunfeld where some positions don't seem to make sense at all). Then try them in your own games and analyze(!!!) your games. See where you went wrong and improve on that. That's my advice. Good luck!
What should I play after 1.d4? (Not any gambits just a solid opening)

I went thru this chapter 20 years ago and now recently again after picking up the game again, d4 is a fluster to play against with black.
I played QGD and semi Slav back in the day when Kramnik was the man. It is a stubborn and grinding game if that is your preference. D5 scores a low winning percentage surprisingly.
I’ve looked into the Modern, KID, Nimzo and English Defense while using the Englund Gambit as a band aid for blitz and bullet.
I have refocused my game for rapid and decided on the Modern and Nimzo as my main reportorial. The modern was natural for me because I am a Sicilian player who seeks imbalance and counter play, the modern also had the highest winning percentage so it was obvious to me. We didn’t have strong engines and current databases back then.
The Nimzo, I like the imbalance and straight forward plan on ensuing a weakness on whites pawn structure, play on the c file and fight for the e4 square.
I dismissed the KID because I didn’t like the cramped and closed positions but also, white will run you off the board with the Austrian attack or have you punching air when white opposite castles. Lastly be prepared to trade queens early in the game depending on the thematic pawn push, so boring.
The English defense or QID normally transposes to the Owens defense when white does e4 on the second move and after that, black is inferior.

Play benko Gambit , literally no one knows how to play and It's a long term positional advantage for a pawn

AGAINST D4 YOU SHOULD PLAY QUEENS GAMBIT DECLINED MEANS LIKE D4,D5,C4,E6 PLAY THESE MOVES THEN YOU WILL COME TO QUEENS GAMBIT DECLINED POSITIONAL VARIATION THEN YOU CAN PLAY A GOOD GAME. DON'T PLAY GRUNDFELD.

After d4 it is normal to play d5 after it and if he play c4 i would recommend e4(albin countergambit) as it has a trap in it

My recommendation for you is to definitely try out KID. Its a great opening and if it suits you/your style of play you will have lots of wins with it. Grunfeld is very complex and I think anyone below 2000 should avoid it.

Thank You everyone for your comments. Now I started feeling comfortable with grunfeld and will play it and those who are telling its a complex and all.. mostly people don't know the theory of grunfeld in much detail even if they play main line I m prepared for it so no worries.... also I will consider playing KID or Nimzo indian

You could play some sort of Tarrasch against any sort of Queen's gambit, and then just playing normal Colle and London stuff vs those if you want to play d5
If you want to play nf6, I advocate for Budapest gambit (Yes I know no gambits but imo it's better than remembering 300 pages of Grunfeld theory), very good way of getting opponents out of their comfort zones and getting aggressive positions
Queen's Indian is also super duper solid with nf6 against d4 + c4
And then there's some Benoni stuff although it is rather easy for white to play against if white knows what they're doing

The following books offer excellent repertoires for Black against 1.d4.....all very solid for Black...
How To Beat 1 d4 by James Rizzitano...(features Queen's Gambit Accepted and several flexible responses, depending on how White plays - for example against London System, etc.)...

If you like the Grunfeld, you might consider Chigorins queens gambit as a second opening, there are some lines that are similar to Grunfeld. For instance....

Kings Indian Defense, Slav Defense, Nimzo-Indian, Bogo-Indian, or if you can try to transpose it into a King's Pawn position like Sicilian, Caro-Kann, etc.
I recently started facing a lot of problems against 1.d4 Usually I play grunfeld against it but i think it doesn't suit me (I get too tensed in that positions) So according to u what should I play against 1.d4 I m kind of positional player so it will help if u suggest me I want to start playing Slav but just asking so that I confirm my decision
