What well known gambits are unsound?

Nothing wrong except weakening b4. Black knight (or bishop) will have a nice seat on c5.

A N or B on b4 would likely be taken

What are you talking about? Or did you mean 11.Bd2 a5 12.Nc3 Bb4 12.a3 ? or 11.Bd2 a5 12.a3? Your should correct your post #302

ponz111

Sorry about my sleepy post.  Here is what I should have said

11. Bd2  a5  12. Nc3 is good for White but it is complicated.

ozzie_c_cobblepot

Is anybody using help of an engine for this analysis? I think that would help the discussion along.

ozzie_c_cobblepot

If there were a critical variation which gave only white something to play for, that would be a reason for top GMs to avoid this thing altogether, while not qualifying as unsound per se.

ponz111

Ozzie,

I think there are critical variations where all the fun is with White but on the other hand Black may be able to draw with very exact play and that is why gms in general do not play the Albin.

ozzie_c_cobblepot

The Albin is probably not very fertile for those who wish to play for 3 results from the black side.

ponz111

Why it would be hard to play the blackside of the Albin Counter Gambit

Ponz, you are oversimplifying the position.  I imagine you're looking at b7 as a target.  Just c6 solves blacks "problems".

The knight hangs?

12...Bb4 13. a3 Be7 and black should be OK.

Of course I use engine help in these analysis to avoid missed tactics.

Pacifique

Ponz you are still unable to show white advantage after 9.Qb3 Be7, despite of your claims. To say nothing on the fact that also after 9...c6 it`s not so clear as you claim.

ponz111

My last posting gave the advantage after 9. Qb3  c6.

Claiming advantage does not make position better.

Ponz please dont repeat yourself and read post #316.

I'm no master, but the position looks even to me.  If that passed pawn could be taken then white could have a little advantage, but I think that would prove easier said than done.  In the time it takes to launch an attack on the pawn, black would be able to get safe and get into the game with the rest of his pieces.
