As an e4 player I dislike the positions arising from 1d4 from the white side. If only 1d4 existed and hypothetically you were not allowed to play 1e4 I would not be playing chess at all. Having said that 1d4 is definitely the better move as white has a risk free game with only one exception - when facing the Dutch defence.

Honestly, it's really just whatever brings the most openings you like. Bobby may have said "With 1.e4! I win," but they're the same for all practical matters but one- e4 is sharp, d4 is quiet, generally.

Chess2408Master

E4 as it develops two pieces while d4 only one

Both e4 and d4 are bad; the only winning move is not to play

The same happens in love or friendship

everything runs on opportunistic interests.

There is nothing pure in this world , not even in chess, so the best thing is not to play.

I can proudly say that I have never lost a single game against Magnus Carlsen.

I have stood by his side and shaken his hand, but I would never think of playing a game against the Norwegian because I already know the result in the long run

Chess2408Master

Ha yeah keep telling yourself that

This is a Chess discussion over the internet, not a philosophical inquiry over tea.

1. e4 if you're normal

1. d4 If you're boring

1. c4 if you hate fun

1. Nf3 if you really hate fun

GiantLittlePanda

No it is more like

1. e4 if you're a Bobby Fischer fan

1. d4 if you hate excitement

1. c4 if you aren't either

1. Nf3 if you are too lazy to do opening preparation

1. g3 if you want a draw

1. b3 if you want to think outside of the box

1. f4 if you are sleepy and want to end the game quickly

1. Nc3 if you are a beginner

1. b4 if you want to troll someone

1. a3 if you hate being white

1. e3 if you misclicked and meant to play e4

1. d3 if you goofed up and tried to play d4

1. g4 if you intentionally want to play the worst move possible

Nikolai_Mardamshin

Of course e4

alfonso1000p
