Best opening for white:

Best opening for black:

Now if you could only get to make your opponent play like that ...

I recommend the Queens Gambit, easy to learn and play

I'm honestly a fan of bird's opening, 1.f4. I think the first time I saw it, it just stood out because it was different, slightly unorthodox, but it works for me.

Damiano 16th century

central pawns, knight, bishop, castle :-)

Isha: I think the computer agrees with you. 😇

1.e4 or 1.d4 but 1.e4 seems sligtly better to me.

Damiano (AD 1512)

Bird opening is fun to play mainly because it catches your opponent off guard. It is one of the less studied openings, so very few people know how to play against it. During rated matches I prefer the Scotch Game simply because I have played it so many times that it is familiar and not as risky.

Ruy Lopez: most played at top level and for good reason so.

MariasWhiteKnight

Yeah well if its played a lot its also a bit boring, dont you think ?

tygxc

@11

No, Ruy Lopez is not boring at all. Example:

With all respect to everyone...

Myself would suggest "Italian opening" (when possible):

1. e4 2. Knight g1-f3 3. Bishop f1-b5 4. King e1-g1

Solid opening for beginners (my grandfather told me :-)

For black I like the Scandinavian but for white I like the veana
SteveWanton

Found kind of vienna. (Wiener Partie), no room to castle the king?

SteveWanton

Sorry. My everlasting dream is "King goes to c1".

Never won any single game with this plan ;-)

SteveWanton

bunny nailed it.

ChessGMbruhl2

According to me, it's the London system.
