anyone knows?
Who plays Grunfeld and why is it awesome?

The top players are often avoiding the grunfeld with some funny e3 lines allowing black to get a benoni with an extra tempo (compared to the lines where you play e4 in one go). Shows how much they respect it, its the berlin of the d4 openings.

Not clearly an "extra tempo", but white has a pawn at e3 in an otherwise normal Benoni setup, which is not well-placed there. If white does not push d4-d5, then the game usually transposed to a reverse Tarrasch defence, where white's extra move isn't worth much.

to play for a win, because the grunfeld is a draw!
that's like saying chess is a draw

No, the Grunfeld is nothing like the Berlin in terms of its drawing propensity. Black plays the Grunfeld to win. When a GM match player needs a draw as Black, they almost never choose the Grunfeld.

but black cant use the grunfeld in a must win situation in gm-level if white is content with the draw?

was watching some Attila Turzo game analysis on youtube and apparently there are not a few ways for white to avoid Grunfeld.
i watched an interview with georg meier after his match with magnus carlsen (carlsen was black in grunfeld and won) where meier stated that he never expected carlsen to play the grunfeld because and i quote :" white can always get a draw in the grunfeld if he wishes" then why did he loose? did he play for a win against carlsen or was he so surprised that he forgot his lines?
