why d4 is better than e4

d4 is for a closed game, e4 isn't. Both are good moves. Grandmasters tend to have better chances against each others in closed games. Theyre usually more complicated. So thats why they choose d4 mostly.

To all those d4 players out there: women get really turned on when guys play e4. Just saying.

Scottrf

Haha, I knew I played e4 for a reason!

Would you care to divulge where you first noticed this phenomenon and if so, where this is ongoing ?

Agrees with JaneBell. E4 is a score trick. goes right up in their center from the beginning.. Feels good. damn..

1. e4 , Kxe4!!

^---thats why

Actually, 1...Kxf2# is a better move.

I'd say 1...Kxe1!! is probably the best choice. cannibalism huh?

You can't take the king.

Um... that's far from the biggest problem with that move.

rules dont count for cannibals

This is ongoing in the outside world.

But it's not the best move because if you take the opponent king, you can't deliver checkmate and therefore you can't win the game. That's why 1...Kxf2# is the best move.

I have to say, I almost exclusively play 1 e4 and it never seemed to turn my wife on... perhaps it would if I were to play a select list of female chess players...though the ones I am thinking of could probably play the worst statistical move on their first move, after I played 1. e4 and they'd still win ...

I play them both, I find them equally good. I remember Bobby Fischer in 1972 had almost never played d4 until game 6 which was possibly the turning point of the match when he played c4 out of the blue then quickly transposed it to a Queens Gambit for 1 of the greatest games ever. So if Fischer can play both why not everyone?

Do you expect everyone to be WC?

LOL I wish, but really what it says to me is that it has been tested by the best & even Fischer found both good enough to play in the World Championship

bettensmajic

there is a big difference e4 opens up so many OPTIONS !

Good enough but not suitable. Some play e4 better, some d4 and c4. I think e4 is mostly memorization.

You may be correct but how much does playing style dictate your preference & how much does what you learned 1st effect your choice also memorization is part of the game .... errr how does the Knight move again? Smile

As an d4 advocate, even I have to admit...heh...e4 is more "sexy". (Where else other than an Chess.com forum can you EVEN say this?)
