Why exactly does the London get so much hate?

I was unaware The London Opening was despised so much. I seem to see it and similar opening a lot.I don't have strong positive or negative feelings about it. I do think it is rather silly to rage against various openings. I dislike certain types of players more than certain types of openings.

One reason I didn't see mentioned is this...

It tends to be that, the lower the rating, the sooner the players want one side (or the other) to be winning... when one side is winning it's easier to understand what's going on. But with the London, it can easily be move 15 and neither side has a clear advantage or plan.

If, for example, the London had something very clear about it... "white has a strong attack, but if you can defend you're ahead" then beginners and intermediate players wouldn't care.

Gotham plays garbage like a3 Sicilian, Delayed Bowdler Attack because he hates the Sicilian so much. Lol.

No-one should ever take his advice. Most of his content is mocking and insulting lower rated players for their poor play.

At our level of play, people learn to play the London so that they won't actually need to learn to play chess. They tend to use it as a substitute for thinking, instead of as an aid to thinking.
