HHmmmm, can I call " slippets" ?
basically reb...the lesson here is that if i just want to discuss chess...you should probably just discuss chess. dont make yourself become my mental outlet. im much smarter than you and will always make you look very dumb which isnt good for your coaching career.
I've interacted with Reb for six years or more on this site. I have no idea how smart he is. When someone starts talking about their own intelligence or their "mental outlet," however, I have a good start.
Zing! And this from a guy who claims he has no sense of humor!
In the 1990 WC match between Karpov and Kasparov that FOS brings up to show that Kasparov played the Scotch with success its interesting that he played the scotch twice in this match , winning once and drawing once . He also played the Ruy in 8 games winning 4 of them ! The match is also interesting in that neither player lost with white and Karpov didnt play 1 e4 a single game while Kasparov played only 1 e4 in the match .
I see three wins from eight games in the Spanish...
there was no theoretical discussion in this thread. reb didnt care to try any detail about how white must get a better position in the ruy than from other openings...didnt want to try that with me. preferred to just go straight to ad hominem. so whatever expertise they are supposed to have is concealed at the very least
I completely agree with this, but you can't deny having said that you think you know more about chess.
and i completely believe it. but its not in anyway related to my argument about the values of different openings
No it isn't, but in repsonse to "Nothing wrong with being class B, but insulting strong experts and titled players and thinking you know more about chess than they do is a bit ridiculous..." you said "they insulted me...and they were being stupid. i questioned their intelligence not their study of chess." just a few minutes ago.
What if said expert were to lose to said class B player in a challenge?

I checked again ( put my glasses on this time ) and you are right ! Sorry , he only won 3 with the Ruy and once with the Scotch .
Just an FYI, I edited my last post just slightly so it was a little more readable, apparently after you quoted it. Also note that I was quoting Hicetnunc. I am confused by your answer though. I believe that the expert and master referred to in the quote are TF and Reb.
That's a better reply!
5oS keeps digging deeper.
Reb has proven his playing strength repeatedly over the board. 5oS has shown in the only tournament he entered recently that he didn't believe himself capable of competing against experts and masters for his state's championship, and instead swam in the shallow end with others rated u1800.
what on earth are you trying to say now reb? the scotch didnt perform as well as the ruy in that match?
With your great intellect you cant figure out what I am saying ?! Oh my ... Ok , I will draw you a picture : The FACT that Kasparov played the Ruy 4x as much as the Scotch in his WC match against Karpov is a very clear indication that he believes the Ruy is superior to the Scotch , the FACT that he has also played the RUY 5x as much as the Scotch in his career indicates the same . In this particular match the Scotch was more successful for him as he scored 1.5/2 ... clearly a better % than what he scored with the RUY . Would that % have held up if he had played the Scotch 8 games ? I doubt it as Karpov would have been better prepared in later games for it .
5oS scored 4/5 in U2000 which isn't bad at all. Losing only to a 1900+ player.
FOS , you gonna play a tourney in another 4 years or so ?
FOS , you gonna play a tourney in another 4 years or so ?
probably not. im starting to think tournament players just arent much fun to be around
See ?
Tournament chess is fun, going to big state tournaments with chess friends is a blast for me. Also I had a great time at the Chicago Open, although my wallet didn't.
You must live in a rude state. People here are much nicer after losing than the chess.com community. Of course there's going to be freaks that show up at tournaments, but as chess players we must accept that some of us are what people would call "betas", and many insane ppl show up to play.
On the whole, folks in Georgia are much less rude than those from the Great Lakes states.
'course that's just my own experience.
It's real tough to be productive without leaving the house.
Well, Scotch is not the Ruy but is sound, the Grob isn't.

As noted above, smart people admit when they are wrong. NOW, I do have some idea how smart Reb is: he is much smarter than FOS.
It's very apparent. It's, very likely, at the root of your unhappiness.
