3 of the best players are rated and yes this club is recognisable around the school. I am the clubs president and I am responsible for organizing events and sponsorships/fundraising?

yeah it is left to the kids, and our rating range from 800-1900, we are going to meet the school to help with our budget but i doubt that they will give us anything

I have some bits of string, old buttons and small pieces of old tinfoil. Would that help?

I am a high school student and under fide I represent Tunisia, I live in London,Ontario,Canada which is where the school I go to and that needs funds to support chess there is   

I've found in my chess club that creating some internal competition makes for great focus.  I now rate the kids on an Elo calculator I made here: http://qa76.net/elo.

This is NOT a valid rating outside the club, as this only curves the kids against each other.  But by having them compete for an internal team rating, they get very motivated and competitive.

Not sure if that would help the teams performance overall or outside the club, but thought I'd throw it out for consideration.
