How many days, time control, other details?
How many people do you think might be there? That would drive what people think the prize fund should be and if they would be willing to pay that kind of entry with that particular payout structure.

Proceeds would go towards a non for profit. Funds would be used for providing better chess programing for the kids.

Gotcha. Are there other tourneys in the area (near-ish) that run similar time control and length? If so, you might compare to what they normally charge and pay out.
Since you are doing it for charity, that might not be too bad.
By the way, when you say 1st gets free tournament entry, you mean you are just refunding their entry or free entry to a future event?
I would like to get some feedback about a tournament I might be organizing.

1st- $150 plus free tournament entry
2nd-$75
3rd-$50
