Dear BorgQueen,

I apologise for what must have sounded something of a sexist comment. I understand that it is not in the spirit of chess.com. I do assure you that it was quite out of character.

umm....you do realise BQ is a guy?

when you factor this in "honest love" isnt sexist , but a bit camp ;)

Sisko rocks, both he and Picard had a wider range of emotions (mainly due to actors playing their roles)

When Picard was tortured by a Romulan (who was trying break him by saying the immortal Orwell line "there are five fingers/lights") is a good example - TJ Hooker would never in a million takes been able to do that episode.

Totally dissagree, Have you ever seen any episodes of the twilight zone staring Shatner? He is quite capable of "good acting", besides the argument here is Picard or Kirk not the actors who portray them. Unfortunately for the actors they are trapped by the charactor and the script. Bottom line here is that the original Star Trek is and always will be a sci fi classic and cornerstone of all that followed. More kids grew up wanting to be Kirk than Pickard. Kirk was a winner, he always won against any odds. Picard lost to the borg on more than one occasion, Pickard and his crew were duped into wearing a stupid game and were saved by wesely of all people. Pickard was outsmarted by the romulans and forced to retreat. I could go on, you will have a difficult time finding even one time that Kirk was bested.

a man or woman can be decent enough to apologize to another man who is decent enough to be offended by sexism.  It holds both genders back from progress, and both suffer from ignorance.

Kirk is a direct decendent of TJ Hooker and Denny Crane.

Even Chuck Norris respects Kirk.

Wikipedia does not make Kirk cite any sources, if he says its so - its good enough for them.

Kirk knew that photon torpedoes were never meant to be a LAST resort . . .

The only time Picard ever met Kirk, Kirk saved his ass from a beat down.

One word - Admiral.

Kirk and Picard fought the same guy, only one of them died. Clearly the dead one is superior, like this thread argues, right?

Sarcasm? Many have died in RL proving they were superior in the act. Also do not the needs of the many outwiegh the needs of the one?

No you're completely right, that is what I was getting at. By being killed by Soran, Kirk proved he was much superior to Picard who survived the encounter, for he died a true and noble death.

Terror at 20000 ft was a great Twlight Zone episode,it was well writen, but John Lithgow (not sure of the spelling) was better in the remake.

I could never reconcile myself to the common, ordinary circumstances in which Kirk died. I mean it just a fight, right? Just some fisticuffs with a typical evil villain. A guy like Kirk should have died in a heroic act of courage and selfless nobility which ultimately would have saved most of humanity - or the crew - or at least Spock.

Kirk isn't dead he lives forever in the Nexus.

Only Kirk and his crew could inspire a Star Trek fashions video :

Now that list really made me choke on some very hot coffee. Laughing

Admiral_Kirk

This is Admiral Kirk speaking....

Sisko is the best of the five captains.

cabadenwurt

I've also got a thread going about Star Trek and the same basic question came up recently.I like both of these Captains as they are so very different, but if I had to choose between them I would pick Kirk.
