I'm glad you posted this!  I know the game by heart, because I'm a hardcore Alekhine fan, but it is always special to see such a trouncing! 

Especially the trouncing of a player as strong as Euwe!  :)

I find it quite heartening to see World Class players get smashed like newbies.

Good question as the king gets to g7 and looks somewhat safe there.  But i would certainly think white's development would make him better here.  Also, after ..kf8 re1 nxf6 Qe7+ kg7 re5 could be an issue, unless i'm missing something better...

I've looked at the position you mean a few times and I can't see anything concrete. Above is the naive continuation of a failed plan. I just wonder if the real problem is turning up to a casual game with Alekhine (who probably talks you into a drink) and taking it too casually.

I also consider that I may have misread the position and await your (or anyones') correction.

Seriously, can you imagine the pressure? I bet Euwe was beaten before he started (stolen from Sun Tzu).

Anyway, I think that even after 11 .... Kf8 White is better (open to different, reasoned evaluations), and I guess that was what Alekhine was playing for. Euwe's alternative move immortalized the game and enhanced Alekhine's persona. One slip and you're dead.
