Has Andreas Duckstein, Austrian Chess Champion, died?

goldendog

No, he just moved in with Polish-born Belgium champion Arthur Dunkelblum, which is to say, probably yes.

Sambirder

Thank you. Does anyone know where I can find a website which reliably tells about the players?

goldendog

1) That was a "joke" as Dunkelblum died 30 years ago

2) I just wiki it and can usually find something unless the player is somewhat obscure

3) The Oxford Companion to Chess isn't bad for a book

Sambirder

However, they give the impression that Kavalek is still alive, however I can't be sure.

goldendog

I believe he is still writing columns for the Washington Post?

Sambirder

Is that another "joke?"

goldendog

No I was serious that time.

kco

oh come on be serious goldendog Smile well if Duckstein  was still alive today he would be 82 year old ! now is he dead or not ?

goldendog

I nominate kco. He even knows when Duckstein was born. Not bad.

I don't know, Lilienthal is 98, Smyslov is 88, Averbach is about 87, Gligoric is 86, and Taimanov is 83. He could easily be that age.

kco

here is the lastest so far 'New York Time' but the event was in 1993

kco

here is another one from chessgame but the spelling is different is spelt Dueckstein and his games go up to 1998. As far as I know he is still playing even in this year, 'click here'

Sambirder

Well, if you want, I'll add 81 year old Benko, Portisch is 72, and Uhlmann is 74.
