Jugador árabe del siglo X, conocido tambien con el nombre de Al Suli. Es autor de diversas obras históricas, así como del tratado de dos volúmenes "Kitab as Satrangi" (Libro de ajedrez), del que solo se encontraron algunos fragmentos contenidos en varios códices. As-Suli fue preceptor del califa ar-Radi, que le distinguio con su amistad. A la muerte de ar-Radi su estrella empesó a declinar y tuvo que abandonar su país. La fama de As-Suli como el mejor jugador mundial perduró durante siglos en el mundo árabe.
