He is the author of various historical works, as well as the two-volume treatise "Kitab as-Satrangi" (Book of Chess), of which only a few fragments have been found in various codices. As-Suli was the tutor of the Caliph ar-Radi, who honored him with his friendship. Upon ar-Radi's death, his star began to wane, and he had to leave his country. As-Suli's fame as the world's greatest chess player endured for centuries in the Arab world.

Es autor de diversas obras históricas, así como del tratado de dos volúmenes "Kitab as Satrangi" (Libro de ajedrez), del que solo se encontraron algunos fragmentos contenidos en varios códices.
