Bobby Fischer was one of the greatest and most fascinating chess players in history. He was born in 1943 in Chicago and became a chess prodigy at a very young age. By 14, he had already won the U.S. Chess Championship, and at 15 he became a grandmaster—the youngest ever at that time. His biggest achievement came in 1972, when he defeated Boris Spassky in the World Chess Championship 1972 held in Reykjavík. This match was historic because it took place during the Cold War, and Fischer’s victory made him a global icon.
