why don't you try the chess mentor?

it's helpful, and you should post some game to know your weaknesses.

I noticed you only had 1 member point, so you may not know how to post a game.  Check out a topic I started called "I'd love to post a game, but how?"  Hopefully that will help with the posting.  Now what I do to improve is read books, check out the forums, use Chess Mentor on this sight like Pawntor suggests and play games.  I play chess anyway I can right now, here, yahoo, computer programs, in person (OTB), Chessmaster on the Gameboy DS, etc.  ChessMentor has a free introduction set of tutorials you should try.  Hope this helps.

Play with somebody who's really good and ask them to teach you a few things

I can show you a few things I've learned, or, if we hang out, I could lend you some notes I've been taking on a chess book.

Play, read, play, read, play, read, play...

Okay, I just looked at a game of yours.  My advice above is still applicable, but more specifically, ...play, read(tactics)....

isnt that a terrible series of moves? if it was good or useful grandmasters would use it
silentfilmstar13
Yes, it is a terrible opening.  If you want to improve, please never, under an circumstances, play that opening.  Also, it's not the Fool's Mate.  It's the Scholar's Mate.

The best thing to do when starting chess is to get your basics down! The first idea in chess is to know your goal, which is to capture your opponents king. The ONLY way to do this is to attack the king with more force than he has defending him, and the final blow will land. So the goal that you are trying to achieve during the entire chess game is to create this imbalance in force. There are many ways to do this! The thing to do when studying chess is to study the characteristics of the individual pieces and how to extract their maximum power. There are also the strategic ideas as well, like centre control and pawn formations. All of these ideas lead back to the one key idea of creating a superiority of force with which to attack the opposing king. This seems like an abstract idea. If anyone would like to discuss it further, send me a message.

you can keep on playing and view your mistakes and also check some chess moves that you can use.

I'll be your huckleberry, why don't you challenge me to an unrated game?

(or rated if you fancy your chances), talk to you later
