In fact, I believe the skills you pick up in poker are more important in life than the skills you use in life from learning chess, you are a better man.

Care to elaborate? Because the "skills" in poker are essentially the ability to read your opponent and a bit of statistics if you so desire which are really not that useful in life.

But to the original discussion regarding chess and poker being related, I don't think you could be farther from the truth. Chess is a game where all decisions and outcomes fall completely with the player, outside factors prolly don't account for more than 10% of your success or failure as a chess player. Poker on the other hand offers quite a bit more emphasis on outside factors. Nonetheless, I like both chess and poker (chess more), but really, how many of you would argue more than 50% of success at poker comes from the skill of the individual player? You might as well compare chess to Monopoly!

No I am not going to elaborate, do your own research.  Even if it turns out that you are correct, still, my opinion is the one I previously posted.

So let me get this straight, you'll giva an opinion, no fcts, and then get peeved when someone asks for information.Foot in Mouth

I'm a professional poker player. I grind online six-max cash games and live cash games. Poker subsides alot of my living expenses for the last few years.

There is a huge skill element to poker and alot of strong chess players have since moved on to poker for the financial rewards. Studying theoretical poker requires alot of mathematical analysis and preparation (yes, you can prepare against other people in poker).

Online poker (cash games) especially is now alot more skill dependent. Especially given the sample size, a professional typically plays millions of hand with each hand worth only a small portion of his winrate. And the luck element is essentially snuffed out.

Live poker, especially, tournaments are higher variance because of the way tournament works (increasing blinds) and you can go from losing money to making millions. However, live poker allows a form of edge in live reading/people skills and that can somewhat overcome the variance for the top players. Online players work much harder and edges are smaller there.

I like poker better than chess.  There is a lot more to poker than reading your opponent.

I did well in the United States but it was terrible when they stopped on line poker.  Have done well in casino poker.
