I was learning to play chess 10 years ago and had a decent ability againts average club player at the time. The problem is the way im playing the game is using intuitive tactical calculation in which although i can see the next opponent possible move and managed to prevent any attack but i dont know any theory related to chess opening, ending etc.

Accidentally, i think i was imitating the club player move such as 1. e4... Or d4... And some time as a black i had used sicilian defense intuitively cuz i dont know any theory.

By now, i started to play chess again but forgeting the 'intuitive' tactics a had in the past. Im learning basic opening theory and tactics but it doesnt work. Im afraid it is because i learn incorrect fundamental mindset.

So, i would like to get some advice or your learning path from the beginner to your current level, is there anybody else outta there like to share?

Thanks.....

Lets see, I'll make it short. There are a lot good teaching tools out there. CM10 Josh Waitzkin's lesson were of the first I learnt back in the day, then there are a few good books, http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Idiots-Guide-Chess-Edition/dp/1592573169

I don't 100% understand your level of play, or how much of chess you understand, If your willing to answer a few questions, maybe I could help.

A while back some free courses in the Chess Mentor were written to help relative novices get off on the right foot.  Couldn't hurt to give them a go; they're quite well written.
