I have seen a lot of people rate Capablanca higher than Karpov and vice versa but of these two chess legends- Who was better? ( btw I say Karpov)

Fischer, Kasparov, Karpov and Capablanca should make a chess team!

Capablanca. He's on the top of my list of all-time best.

Interesting comparison, TheProfessor.  Capablanca was a big influence on Karpov.

Who would you pick?

JoseCappablanca

I would have to go with Capy

Capablanca....he was simply better in the ending.

Justr because at 63 yrs old and learing from old timers like Fischer and Spassky, I have to go with the old masters....I  choose Capabanca over Karpov  because the new guys learend from and stand on the shoulders of the old masters.

Karpov would not be Karpov in the great masters did not precede him and function as teachers.

Who was better?  Karpov.

Who had more natural talent? Capablanca.

If they played a match in their respective primes, I think it's safe to say that Karpov would win convincingly. There's a difference between being one of the greatest and being one of the best. You can't really compare chess strength because Karpov had a huge advantage in opening theory, training, technology, etc.
